Foods that affect thyroid status.

Avoid:

  • Cruciferous vegetables (cabbage, brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, turnips, and bokchoy), limit intake to 5 ounces a day or steam

  • Fried and fatty foods (disrupt the body’s ability to absorb thyroid hormone replacement medicines)

  • Processed foods, high sodium content as hypothyroidism tends to raise the BP

  • Excess fiber

  • Coffee (tends to block the absorption of the thyroid replacement), medication taken with coffee can lead to uncontrollable thyroid levels

  • Alcohol has a toxic effect on the thyroid glands

  • Sodas

  • Rye

  • Semolina

  • Spelt

  • Wheat

  • Barley

  • Lima Beans

It may vary a bit individually, but it is VERY important to avoid gluten by all means and to drink lots of water, not tea or anything but plain water, if tea – he recommends fruit tea but again black and green tea is as bad as coffee
