Checklist of Hypothyroid Symptoms

Use this checklist to note the symptoms you experience. It is not a diagnostic tool, but it can help you describe your experience to your doctor. Consider ticking any that apply and noting how long you have had them.

Energy and metabolism

  • persistent tiredness and low energy
  • weight gain or difficulty losing weight
  • feeling cold when others are comfortable
  • a low body temperature

Skin, hair and nails

  • dry, rough or flaky skin
  • thinning hair or hair loss
  • loss of the outer third of the eyebrows
  • brittle or ridged nails
  • a puffy face or eyelids

Mind and mood

  • brain fog and difficulty concentrating
  • poor short term memory
  • low mood or depression
  • loss of motivation

Digestion

  • constipation
  • bloating

Muscles and joints

  • aches, stiffness or weakness
  • cramps
  • slow movements

Heart and circulation

  • a slow pulse
  • raised cholesterol

Reproductive and hormonal

  • heavy or irregular periods
  • reduced libido
  • difficulty conceiving

Other

  • a hoarse voice
  • swelling at the front of the neck (goitre)
  • tingling or numbness in the hands
  • reduced sweating
  • sensitivity to cold
